The High Tech Work from Home Advantages

The advantage of having a background in high tech is that in most cases, your work can be done from remote locations. You already have an extreme comfort level using computers, which is a requirement of almost any work from home job these days. You also have an appreciation for the importance of network security. You may also already have advanced hardware and software needed to do your work from home. Additionally, your skills are in demand, so employers want to keep you happy. Finally, your pay is usually good enough that even if you have to take a cut for the ability to work from home, you can still survive quite nicely. I know these are generalizations, but having come from a high tech staff employed position I can see that this is true.
There are a number of job search sites that specialize in high tech positions - like Dice and ComputerJobs that I mentioned previously. Just search on "telecommute" or "work from home". Unfortunately, you'll also see results from a Dice search that say something like "NO TELECOMMUTE" or "Telecommute is not an option", when you search using "telecommute". But that happens with just about every site you search.

My reply to JI on finding high tech work from home:

Since you have a tech background and you are in a very well populated region (metro NYC area), you should have less trouble than most. Yes, you want to stay from all the "make a million" promos out there - I've never seen even ONE that had any merit, and unfortunately my About Home Business site attracts them by the hundreds with spam comments I have a hard time keeping up with.
I would suggest you take a more traditional route. If I were in your shoes I'd be looking at and similar sites like on a regular basis. I'd also be looking on CraigsList, first in your area then expanding out. I had a blog post about CraigsFindr recently that allows you to search multiple regions at once, since CL doesn't allow that. (Guide note: Since this response, CraigsList has disabled CraigsFindr's ability to do this.) I'd also be checking Monster and CareerBuilder and if you don't already have one I'd set up a profile on LinkedIn.com and look for work there - both through their search tool and by networking. Search for people you've known in the past, you might be surprised who you find on . They can be a good source of referrals and recommendations.
You might also register with recruiters who have postings in your line of work. Although I've had bad experiences with third-party recruiters and staffing agencies and now avoid them completely, others have had favorable experiences. Additionally, if you don't already belong to one, I'd join at least one professional association in your line of work - they often have leads and provide an additional place to network. Also, has far and away the most remote working arrangements I've ever seen - many for high tech, including various types of project managers, so you should be trolling their job postings regularly, too.
You might also consider offering your services as an independent in order to work from home, if you are in a position to do so. Since technically, employers can't tell independent contractors when they must work, my own experience has been the opportunities to work from home are far greater in an independent capacity than they are for employees. I've been doing that for five years now and while it hasn't always been easy as far as cash flow and costs, I'm usually in a position where I can refuse projects that require me to be on site every day.
Last but not least, if you are still employed, think about how you might approach your current employer with the prospect of working remotely. A majority of people who come to my site were able to snag their first work at home position with their existing employer.

The Downside of Searching Craig's List for Work at Home Jobs

In my opinion, there are two downsides to Craig's List. First, you can't conduct a single search that looks at all states and metro areas at once. If you're looking for a 100% work at home arrangement, you probably don't need to restrict yourself to your local area when conducting a Craig's List search for a telecommuting position. For 100% telecommuting, you'll probably have better luck searching the biggest job areas - New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, etc. - or at least those areas of the country that are most receptive to letting you work at home (I'd add San Francisco, LA and Washington DC to that list) - regardless of where you live now. This can get time consuming, so I recommend you pick several areas one day and then several more the next, and so on. You could even set up a schedule to list the areas you'll check each day or each week.
The second downside is that although Craig's List provides visitors with the ability to report scams, scam operators can and often do post here as well, so you still need to remain vigilant for phony and sometimes even illegal job offers. But I think nowadays you have to do that no matter where you look for work from home jobs or which website you visit. After all, even though I post that I believe are perfectly legitimate, I've been fooled at times, too.
On the plus side, Craig's List fosters a strong community among its users and if someone uncovers a scam artist, Craig's List makes reporting the culprit fairly easy. That's why when you click on some of the links to work at home jobs on Craig's List, you'll see a message that the posting was removed.
Keep visiting my site and continue to use the links I provide on the site for additional work from home jobs search tools as well. Again, since anyone can post and get away with it for at least awhile, you need to remain vigilant for con artists. Unfortunately, they are everywhere.
Do your best to keep a positive attitude and don't give up. When you finally find a legitimate work from home opportunity you'll want to project a positive, can-do attitude to improve your chances of nailing it down.

Paying for Access to Work at Home Jobs Doesn't Guarantee Anything

Whether you pay a fee or not, you still need to be on the lookout for scams.
Many of the jobs on wahm.com have been picked up from what the editor believes are legitimate job postings on Craig's List and a few other sources. But the jobs posted there are just a small subset of the work from home jobs posted around the country and around the world on Craig's List, so it often pays to search Craig's List on your own.

Work at Home

A lot depends on the kind of work you're qualified to do - is it something that lends itself to working from home?
You are absolutely right - you don't want to give out credit card information or pay for the privilege of working at home - with one possible exception. Some telecommuting job and freelancer sites - for example, Guru.com and eLance.com - offer more features and more positions if you register with them and pay a membership fee. That's how they make their money. Although sometimes you can get a free basic membership, you'll find that the information you can access and the projects you are allowed to bid on are severely restricted unless you opt-in for a paid membership.
A work at home job site like TJobs.com requires you to pay a small annual membership fee - the last I checked about 10 or fifteen bucks for a membership password good for one year - to access their job postings. Some of the virtual assistant websites and other job registration sites also work that way. So while you might consider paying a registration or membership fee for a site that offers job postings in the area you're interested in, you never want to pay an "employer" directly for a job - those are just scams.

Work from Home Jobs you

I don't care if you're on fire and they're offering you water... NEVER take one of these work from home jobs.

As a job screener for. I think I’ve seen more scams than the FTC. Those scammers are always trying to get past our screening process to get to our members… people like me who are serious about wanting to work from home and DON’T want be scammed.

So I hope you’ll trust me when I tell you I know what I’m talking about. I'm immensely qualified to talk to you about the various types of work from home scams out there; I deal with them every single day and screen thousands of them every year.

Here are some of my battle secrets.

If you’re the do-it-yourselfer type and prefer to find your own work from home job on the internet instead of using a service that screens them for you first, great! It can be done. But please take a couple of minutes to read this article first and take my advice:

Never, ever take one ofthese work from home jobs.l
e
Idon’t care if you need chocolate really bad and they offer you a Hershey bar. I don’t care how bad you want to stay home with your baby. Don't EVER take one of these work from home jobs! You can work from home legitimately and safely. These jobs are only going to land you in troubl.
“Data Entry Job”. Data entry.
Data entry is the only type of job in this article that gets an asterisk. The reason is because you CAN accept a data entry work from home job under two conditions: 1) it is costing you absolutely nothing to start, and 2) they’re NOT promising you $300-$500 per week. REAL Data Entry Jobs pay about $10 an hour and don’t cost a single penny to start. Newsflash: They may require that you actually know how to TYPE to do that type of work. (Knowing how to text message your boyfriend doesn’t count.) Moneyfromhome.net has scam-free data entry jobs posted at its site for members and they’re absolutely free, but of course, you need to be qualified.
Order Processor Job
“Order Processor”. Also known as the dreaded “Email Processor” job. Jeepers, I could go on and on about this “job”. This is just the electronic version of the old envelope stuffing scam. For this “job” you first pay $20-$70 for the fee du jour. After you pay the fee, you will be disappointed when all you receive are instructions to go out on the internet and work your fanny off promising unsuspecting moms and shut-ins that they can get rich working from home making hundreds of dollars every week just processing orders, like you once believed. Like the envelope stuffing scam, you only get paid only if/when someone else forks over money, like you did, to enroll in this “job”. Your “job” is to advertise the same scam and collect a fee if/when someone falls for it like you did. There is no such thing as a legitimate “order processor” job from home, at least in my experience, which is extensive.
Envelope Stuffing Job.
Even with the internet, sadly, the envelope stuffing jobs are still out there and it seems that people are still falling for them. Like the Order Processing scam, unsuspecting victims pay anywhere from $20-$70 for a registration fee or enrollment package or membership, call it whatever you like. After you pay the fee, all you receive, if you receive anything, are instructions for repeating the same scam that you just fell for. Once a victim responds to your advertising and pays the fee like you did, you will (hopefully) get paid. They promise you can earn $5-$7 per envelope stuffed and of course, they make it sound really, really genuine. Sometimes even I’m amazed at how deceptive and convincing these ads are. If it weren’t so sad this would be the funny part: The claim of $5-$7 per envelope is based on the commission they pay you (if they pay you) when you STUFF the ORDER into the ENVELOPE and mail it to the head scammer. There ARE legitimate envelope stuffing jobs out there but they won’t cost you a single penny to start. There's a special report for members at moneyfromhome.net called “How to Stuff Envelopes at Home Without Getting Ripped Off”. It will tell you exactly how to find that type of work if that’s what you’re interested in. (Newsflash: It pays alot less than $5-$7 an envelope.)
Ad Typist Job.
Another job title used to promote the envelope stuffing scam and the electronic version of it is the "ad typist" job. This job claims they will pay you considerable money to simply type ads. After you pay the registration fee you will be given instructions for advertising the same scam you just fell for, getting paid if and when someone else falls for it like you did and pays the registration fee.
Paid Surveys. Survey Jobs.
“Earn up to $150 for every survey you do at home”.
Paid Surveys. Why are the rest of us dumb enough to actually have real jobs (even if we do work from home), when all we really have to do to make almost $500 a day is simply give our opinions in a survey, three times? Let’s return to reality: These jobs almost never pay what they claim to pay. Many survey enthusiasts report that what you’ll really get are invitations to spend money, surprise charges on your credit card, tons of junk mail and spam, and surveys that pay nothing and may at best enroll you in a contest. At worst, they’ll steal your identity. Your real survey job will be cancelling all the stuff you had to sign up for in order to complete the survey. Never, ever pay money to have a paid survey job and do not give these websites your social security number until you have already earned $599 legitimately. (Why $599? After you’ve earned $600 or more the company really does require your social security or tax ID number to issue a 1099 Form to comply with IRS regulations.) Most companies aren’t going to pay you as much as $150 to find out whether you prefer the dehydrated, artificially colored strawberries in your cereal, or the dehydrated, artificially colored blueberries. There ARE many REAL survey and mystery shopping opportunities out there, I've approved many in the course of my work. There are also service shopper jobs and quality assurance jobs in which you can complete surveys as part of your job and get paid. Especially if you're finding these types of opportunities yourself on the internet, please do not to give your real address, don't give out your social or exact date of birth, and strongly consider getting a temporary email address just for your survey adventure
Job from home accepting payments.
LISTEN TO ME: Never accept a job from home accepting payments! It doesn’t matter what the job title is. NEVER accept a job that requires you to accept payments, take a cut and then forward payment to someone else. Also, never accept a job that requires you to accept shipments of any kind and then also forward them. In all of my experience, and believe me it is a lot of experience, I have never seen a REAL work at home job that requires people to accept shipments and forward them, and I’ve never seen a REAL employer that wants a complete stranger working from home five states away to receive money for them. At the very best, if you fall for this work at home job you will lose money when the original payment that you receive bounces or you find it was fake. At the worst you may go to prison for money laundering, fraud, or even get caught up in an international crime ring.
WORK AT HOME.
One lady in Pennsylvania that wanted to work at home landed in jail when she took one of these so-called work from home jobs that I'm warning you not to take.
Unfortunately, the jobs I’ve listed can be found all over the internet in a monstrous kind of way. They’re EVERYWHERE!! The little sites, the big ones… the sleezy ones the ones that seem honest. It is a source of pride for me to be able to say that is one of the few places where you can shop for a REAL work from home job safely from the comfort of your own home, due, at least in part, to my hard work. (I’m a mom, too, and I've been there.)
So please, please, please follow my advice:
1 .NEVER pay a fee for a data entry job
2.NEVER pay a fee for an envelope stuffing job
3.NEVER pay a fee for a “survey” job and don’t
give out key aspects of your identity to such
companies.
4.NEVER ever take a job that requires you to
receive and then forward either payments and/or
shipments of ANY kind. Never!
5.NEVER take an “Order Processor” or “Email
Processor” or Ad Typist job.
As I keep trying to guard the world from work at home scams with my babies at my feet, please promise me that you’ll take these valuable tips to heart so you don’t become a victim. Please don't let me hear someday that even after I took the time to write and post this article, you still got scammed.
Here's to working from home, safely.

I Finally Became a Work from Home Parent and You Can, Too!

The birth of my first child was more wonderful than I could have ever imagined but the day that I had to return to work was honestly the worst day of my life.
I cried and held on to my baby girl so tight that my husband had to pry her out of my arms to take her to my mother-in-law's home. Since my efforts to find a real work from home jobs were not successful, I had to return back to my outside job. Even though I was only working part time at first and I knew my daughter was in good hands being with her Grandmother, I cried all the way to work, the whole time at work, and the whole way home. This went on for weeks, and even my poor husband was starting to feel the same way. He said that he felt so bad for me that he was almost at the point of saying he would work three jobs if he had to in order to let me be home with her. It was just not financially possible for me to be a stay at home parent. Between the fertility treatments, pregnancy, birth and failed work from home attempts we were not able to live off of one income.
When my second baby was born my excitement was tinged with sadness because I knew how hard it was going to be to leave my baby with someone else while I went to work. Again, I searched again for work from home, thinking that maybe there would be something different out there this time. Again, I couldn’t find anything that would earn me a decent full time income and I believed I needed to go back to that outside job.
It was just as hard if not harder the second time around, because now I was not only leaving my new little baby in someone else’s hands, but also leaving my 22 month old.
I would have to pry my 22 month old off of me because she had gotten so used to mommy being home for 16 weeks. Yes, the maternity leave was twice as long the second time because I also had to have back surgery right after the baby was born. The only difference with returning to work this time was that I was going back to a job that I did truly love. I still cried for weeks.
Finally, I read a classified ad in a magazine about a work from home job selling insurance plans for people that don’t have health insurance. I was interested in that type of business because I have relatives that are uninsurable.
In only a couple of days I received my interview. When the representative called me I knew she was really working from home because I could hear her baby in the background. There was a start up cost to pay, but it was only $50.00. I had searched and tried so many others and paid way more than that. Then she went on to explain that I would get a training package that had marketing materials in it and then I would also get $50.00 in vouchers to send in for additional sales aids plus there were free ads and flyers and things on our training site that I could use without having to order more. She gave me her website and I went online as soon as I got off the phone with her and signed up. She sent me the link to the training site so that I could get started immediately, and then in about three days my training package came in the mail. I did not wait on my training package to come; I started my training as soon as I signed up and started working the next day. I had my first business on the books in no time at all and it only got better.
At the current time I’m waiting for the confirmation of my first promotion to be official.
In only a couple of months I was able to quit my outside job and work from home, for good! I work from home now full time, and do not have to leave my baby girls with anyone else unless I want to!
My days start off now with breakfast with my girls, checking emails while the kids play a little housework then playtime. I start work again after the girls go down for their naps and end when the wake up. After my husband comes home we all eat supper and then he gets to have some Daddy time with the girls while I put in another hour or so of work. We all take a walk or just spend some time outside together when I finish up, and then I put the girls to bed. Some days I do a little work on line after the girls are in bed and some days I just sit and spend quality time with my husband. I try and work only during the week, but sometimes that is not possible and I end up working an hour or two on the weekend. I would not go back to working outside the home though. It is work, but I know I am getting paid for what I do and not someone else. If I work at it I will be earning $100,000.00 or more in the next year and a half. The best thing about it is that I am earning a residual income therefore once I get to where I want to be I can stop working and keep earning that same income year after year. I can also will my income to my children so if something were to happen to me they can continue to receive my residual income without having to do anything for it. I also still have health care benefits for my entire household, a 401K, life insurance and discounts from many businesses.
Sometimes working from home has it’s struggles, but they are so few, and the good outweighs the bad 1000 to 1. It takes some time to figure out how to manage your time, and you can easily get tied up with household things and not work your business. Summertime is probably the hardest time to keep yourself on track. I find days when I just want to go and sit out by the pool and not do any work at all. The good thing is that I can now do that if I want. I just have to remember that I may have to work on Saturday or Sunday afternoon if I am going to do so. Things are so much more flexible and you have no one to answer to but yourself. If the kids are sick you can just take care of them and not worry about calling in sick and what the repercussions will be when you return to work. You have to make sure and let others know that just because you are home does not mean that you are not working.
If you are thinking about working from home and haven’t had the easiest time finding the right opportunity for yourself, don’t give up. You WILL find something that is perfect for you. Make sure that you research each opportunity that you think you may want to try because there are so many out there that will take your money and leave you with nothing but disappointment. Make sure the company offers you training and support because there will be days that the support is as important as the training.

Top 10 Work at Home Jobs

Work at home jobs are becoming more and more popular, but there are still some that can be done more easily in a home environment. This article shares 10 of the most common types of work at home jobs you will find online.

1) Customer Service

Thanks to the internet and software programs that allow you to log in to a company's system from home, it is easy for employers to hire remote customer service agents. Imagine sitting in your home office, answering telephone calls from people all over the world. That is a reality for many thousands of home-workers today! The duties that come along with customer service positions vary from company to company, but most often you would be answering customer phone calls, providing general customer service, addressing complaints, entering orders into the company computer system online, and so on.

Requirements: Most companies would require you to have an updated home office environment with computer, telephone, headset, and fax machine, though this will vary depending on the job duties.

2) Telemarketing

Telemarketing is another job that can easily be done from home. Most often this involves making cold calls to sales leads and either selling merchandise or services directly, or sometimes you would be simply setting appointments for sales people to close the sale.

Requirements: Most of these jobs would require an unlimited phone plan so you could make long distance calls without extra charges, but some companies do have a program where you could log into their system online and make the calls over a broadband connection. Some of these jobs do require sales or telemarketing experience, but some are willing to train.

3) Transcription

Transcription is done by listening to audio files and typing them into written form. There are two basic types of transcription jobs: medical and general. Medical transcription requires more intensive training so you will know the medical terminology used on the recordings, which are often created by doctors and other health professionals. General transcription can include many different types of audio recordings, such as meeting notes, seminars, teleseminars, and interviews.

Requirements: Transcription jobs will usually require equipment like software programs that can play the audio files at various speeds, and sometimes a specialized foot pedal is also required to control the software. You may also need a special headset.

4) Web Design

Web design jobs are great options for working at home. You can either work as an employee for a company, or as a freelancer who hires out your skills to many different clients. These jobs would obviously require that you have knowledge of web design, HTML, CSS, PHP, and other computer languages.

Requirements: The only equipment requirements for web design work at home jobs would be the software you need to create, design and update web pages. Some companies might require you to use a specific program like Dreamweaver, but others might not.

5) Writing

Writing is a great option for working at home too. You could either work for one company exclusively or freelance for many clients. This job also offers great flexibility with the types of writing and publications you can choose from. You could write for print markets like magazines, or focus on online publications by writing for e-newsletters and e-zines. Writers are needed for many different types of materials, such as sales brochures, technical manuals, parenting publications, health websites - you can even be a "ghostwriter" for people who want to publish their own books but don't have strong writing skills! Writers can also create their own income by writing and selling e-books online, creating content websites funded by advertising, affiliate products and more. Basically, if you have strong writing skills, there are endless ways to turn them into a paying venture.

Requirements: Even better, the only requirements for working at home as a writer would be having the skills and motivation to do it. It may be helpful to have at least the basic software programs that most clients would use, such as Microsoft Word.

6) Graphic Design

Just like web design, graphics design can be done from home too. This would involve the creation of digital images like artwork, company logos and web site graphics. Graphic designers can also work with print images, but that would more likely be done for a local company, even if you could still work at home much of the time.

Requirements: Once again, software programs for graphic design would be needed, as well as proper training.

7) Sales

Sales jobs can be done from home by telephone or internet, but some may also require daily visits to prospective clients. Some sales jobs would pay commission-only (you would only get paid if you make sales), but some do offer a base salary plus commission.

Requirements: This will vary depending on the company and type of sales job, but most often you would need to have some sales experience, and a home office with computer, telephone and fax machine.

8) Virtual Assisting

Virtual assisting is becoming one of the more popular work at home jobs these days. Most often these jobs require basic clerical skills like knowing how to use a computer, the internet, telephone, email, word processing programs like Microsoft Word, as well as spreadsheets, perhaps accounting software, and other basic office equipment. A virtual assistant can work solely for one employer, or be a freelance independent contractor. The duties of a virtual assistant would most often involve answering telephones, doing clerical work, answering email inquiries from clients, sending mailings, making travel arrangements, and more. (It varies greatly depending on the employer.)

Requirements: Usually you would need an updated computer system, telephone, fax machine, and the right software programs that your employer would use.

9) Teaching/Tutoring

Teaching and tutoring jobs can also easily be done from home, and they can apply to different settings. For example, you could tutor children who need help with their studies, or teach English as a second language to adults. You could work independently on your own, or sign on with a company who will connect you with clients.

Requirements: Besides specialized knowledge and teaching credentials, very little equipment is needed for this kind of work at home job.

10) Consulting

If you have specialized knowledge in specific areas, you may be able to create a lucrative consulting practice from home. There are consultants for pretty much everything, from legal to medical to business to personal life coaching! Consider your areas of expertise and ask yourself if people would be willing to pay money to learn from you. More often consulting is done on an independent basis rather than working specifically for one company.

Staying Social When You Work at Home

Working from home is a dream for a lot of people. The benefits of having no boss, no commute and setting your own hours is enough for anyone to think that working at home is without it's worries. Most home business owners, however, have to face the reality of dealing with loneliness. Taking a few steps in your daily life can help you prevent the problems associated with work at home loneliness.

Working outside the home is very social. When you worked for a company, you probably had work friends. Even if you didn't hang out with people on a casual basis, there were those at work that you socialized with. This social interaction was more important than you may have realized. When you start to work at home, you begin to realize that it's a very isolated and some what lonely life.

The lack of interpersonal interaction can effect you more than you realize. Some of the side effects could be irritability, lethargy and mild depressions. Feeling lonely when you work at home is not uncommon, but you can take steps to minimize it. Your feelings can come from doing work with little interpersonal contact, or it could happen because you don't have co-workers around to help you relieve stress through social interaction.

You need to take steps to prevent work at home loneliness because it can play havoc on your personal life as well as your business life. If you are depressed, you won't be working at full capacity. You are more likely to mess up on projects, miss opportunities and come across as irritable and stressed out.

In order to reduce your loneliness, you can force yourself to get out of the hours and socialize with people. It's natural to become more introverted when you work at home. But if you want to stay positive and upbeat, you need to get out of that routine. Make time to spend with others who share interests with you. Try finding social groups that will allow you an opportunity to interact with people away from the office. For example, if you're a parent you can take time to meet with other parents for playdates.

If you don't have children, or just want to spend some time without them, you can do some community service, focus on a favorite hobby or join some type of group. You could take a class at a local college, or through an adult education program. Whatever you can do to get out of the house and meet new people will help you feel more energized and upbeat.

Participating in local networking events will allow you to connect with new business contacts and be social at the same time. Look for business mixers sponsored by your local chamber of comerce, or leads clubs. This way you'll be participating in a social event, but also growing your business at the same time. This is a good solution if you feel like there is no way that you can take time away from your work to be social.

If you can't get out of the house for some reason, there are other outlets for social interaction that will help you reduce loneliness and stave off depression. Although it's always a good idea to get off the computer and away from the house, you can find websites with work at home business owners. On the websites you can connect, interact and be able to have a social outlet with people who know what you are going through. You can also find forums and websites that are dedicated to your hobbies and interests. These allow you to connect with people who love the same things that you do.
The most important thing to do is to make an effort to get out of the house and interact with people. It's very easy to become isolated and reclusive when you work from home. Make sure to make time to see people in person and connect with others on a day to day basis, whether it's on the phone or on a forum. Stay in contact with others, take time off of your work schedule to socialize and you'll be able to work more efficiently and stay a happy home business owner.

Marketing Your Work-at-Home Business

Thinking of a potentially profitable business idea may be the most important aspect of great things to come in your work from home option. However, it is only the beginning and there is much more to accomplish before you achieve your ultimate dream.

Once you have conceptualized the work from home option, you need to start executing it. If it is a service you have to offer, you will need to decide the quality, cost and specifics of what you have to offer. On the other hand, if it is physical product that you are planning to sell, you may have to work towards sourcing it or producing it yourself. Getting appropriate resources for the productions is the nest step.

The most important aspect of the execution stage, however, is the marketing of the service or product that you have to offer. It is extremely important that your chosen targeted audience is aware of your offering and the manner in which it can be ordered for it to become a success. There are various tactical measures that you can take to ensure that your message gets across to people.

Marketing your offering has two elements to it. You will need to decide on the content of your message and the specific manner in which you send across this message to the relevant target consumer.

Deciding the content involves a thorough study of the competing market and the needs of the customer. This does not mean that you always need to engage in a large market survey to assess what the consumer wants. If you keep your ears and eyes open you will find many instances that give you an idea of the specific need of the consumer. Events around you can help you identify with your potential consumer so that when you decide on the content of your message, you can make it relevant and meaningful. Studying the competitive arena can allow you to understand what other players are positioning themselves as. It allows you to differentiate your offering from the rest of the people so that your product or service is viewed as new and unique.

To send across your message to the relevant customer, you can choose various marketing options that are available today. You should chose them based on the budgets that you have and the amount you have set aside for marketing. Make sure that you assess the return on investments on each activity that you chose. This will help you refine the marketing options that you will continue on a regular basis and those that you will drop over time.

With high Internet penetration levels, Internet marketing is one of the most affordable options possible. You can choose to market your product online by simply blogging effectively. Make sure that your blogs contain meaningful information so that your offering is considered credible and genuine. Marketing your offering in relevant forums is also an option that you can explore. Article marketing is one of the cheapest and most effective forms of internet marketing. Make sure that you optimize your articles for search engines. You can use these articles on your own site or submit them to popular article directories. If your product is a niche product, make sure that you submit the articles on niche sites as well. Giving off a free report or an ebook can be a good way to establish credibility. Even if you do not have writing skills yourself, getting an ebook written is not difficult. You can hire a freelancer for the job. Ensure that you retain all copyrights to the work that you have paid for.

Offline marketing options have been used traditionally for ages. Advertising on the television and releasing advertisements in leading newspapers may be an expensive option. However, you can create flyers which can be circulated in various areas. You can leave these flyers in high traffic locations like the public library, a grocery shop, a video rental shop or other such areas depending on the area that is often visited by your target group. You can even hire a teenager to deliver these flyers on the doorstep of various houses. You can augment the door-to-door option by adding a trial pack of your offering. By forcing the first time trial you can ensure repeat orders if the experience with your product has been good. Make the best of all advertising platforms that you can think of and exploit them. You can pain the advertisement on your car and go about business in the normal way. The incremental gains that such out-of-the-box options can give may surprise you at times.

Deciding on what to say, how to say it and the manner in which to publicize the message are the key aspects of marketing your work-at-home business that you need to ensure. Easy access to information, today, allows consumers to make an educated choice of what they want to buy.

Moving Expenses Related to a New Job May Be Tax Deductible

Did you recently move to another city for a new job or because your old job is now at a new location? A tax break may be coming your way.

How far you moved and the amount of time you spend on the job will have a major impact on whether you qualify for the tax break. Moves that are only short hops and jobs that are short-term or part-time generally do not qualify. However, if you can satisfy the distance and time tests then job-related moving expenses that you incur may be tax deductible.

You will meet the distance test if your new workplace is at least 50 miles further from your former home than your previous workplace was from that home. For example, if your old job was 5 miles from your former home, your new job must be at least 55 miles from that home.

The time test requires you work full-time for at least 39 weeks during the 12 months immediately after your move. If you are self-employed, the time test requires you to work full-time for at least 39 weeks during the first 12 months and for a total of at least 78 weeks during the first 24 months after your move. You can deduct your moving expenses on your tax return even though you have not met the time test by the date your return is due if you expect to meet the 39-week or the 78-week test as required.

Members of the armed forces do not have to meet these tests if the move was due to a permanent change of station.

Reasonable moving expenses are deductible and include the costs of moving your household goods and personal effects to your new home. You can also deduct the expenses of traveling to your new home, including lodging costs.

Meals eaten while in transit between your old and new homes are not deductible as moving expenses. No part of the purchase price of your new home may be deducted as a moving expense. You cannot claim a moving expense deduction for expenses covered by reimbursements excluded from income

Additional information on moving expenses, including an extensive list of deductible and non-deductible expenses, can be found in Publication 521, Moving Expenses, on the IRS Web site at IRS.gov or by calling 800-TAX-FORM (800-829-3676).

Remember that for the genuine IRS Web site be sure to use .gov. Don't be confused by internet sites that end in .com, .net, .org or other designations instead of .gov. The address of the official IRS governmental Web site is www.irs.gov.

Top 10 Most Common Work at Home Jobs

Requirements: Depending on the type of consulting you would be doing, you may need a full home office setup as well as other equipment or software programs related to your line of work.

There are many other types of jobs that can be done from home, but these are probably the most common. However, as technology continues to advance we will likely see more and more opportunities to do even more jobs from home in the future.
